Rainforest World Music Festival 2014
Rainforest World Music Festival ( RWMF ) - An annual event that is bound to amaze you with the sound and music from mother nature. Every year, it is being held in Sarawak Cultural Village - Kuching, Sarawak ( Borneo ), a town that is no stranger to many of us. Playing a big role in making sure that everything was organized is none other than Sarawak Tourism Board.
The land of hornbills and the orang utans welcome visitors from all over the world, united as one to appreciate and celebrate the love of music, by the foothill of the rainforest. It is a blessing to be able to go on an experience with my fellow friends, who treat each other more like family.
Some fascinating facts from RWMF official website . It states that "The Rainforest World Music Festival is a unique festival that brings together on the same stage renowned world musicians from all continents and indigenous musicians from the interiors of the mythical island of Borneo. Its formula of afternoon informative workshops, ethno-musical lectures, jamming sessions and mini concerts, followed by evening performances on the main stage has proven to be a hit with the audience, who come from near and far.
The festival site also sets up a variety of food and drink stalls, an arts and crafts area as well as a counter for festival memorabilia, Sarawak souvenirs and CDs by the performing artists, all this contributing to a fun filled, wholesome festival experience. World Music plus a country fair atmosphere in the midst of lush greenery.
The Rainforest World Music Festival, a not-to-be-missed occasion, guarantees a smashing time in the heart of the Borneo Jungle."

RWMF 2014 brought some of the best world renown indigenous performers such as:

I personally enjoyed all the performances as well as the work shops during the day. I wish I had enough time to attend all of it. Unfortunately I had to choose since there were 3 different venues for different work shops all being held at same time. Workshops starts at 2pm and last till 4.45pm every day during the festival. Night performances start at 7.30pm and goes on till midnight. In between, do not miss out on the RWMF Community Drum Circle which is an interactive percussion session at 5pm - 6pm. It was all fun and happy !
The experience of staying in Melanau Tall House, in Sarawak Cultural Village was priceless as it was one of the most unique stay during my travel experiences. You may choose to stay at a different house in the village, depending on your budget and preferences.
There were shuttle service from Kuching town to Sarawak Cultural Village every hour for an affordable fee to accommodate everyone during the festival.
By evening, many of them made their way across the road to Damai Central to catch the sun set by the beach. Facilities made available here such as 7-11 convenient store, shower room, rest room, food court, camp site, bbq pit, F&B stalls, tattoo shop, ATM machine, etc. If ever you need to find some peace of mind, you know where to go. Sitting by the beach listening to the sound of waves hitting the shore is nothing but calm and relaxing.
I learnt so much and met new friends. How to move my body to the traditional music of Italian and Tanzanian rhythm were some of the experiences I will never forget. It was a blessing seeing how everybody from different backgrounds danced to the same music with big smile on their face. How simple a life can be where all of us share the same happiness under one roof to the sound of music.
It is a blessing to have such an event that unites people regardless of your background. Something that I will cherish with my heart.
