Malimbu Hill, Lombok - Indonesia
Malimbu hill is one of the best spots to watch the sunset to end your evening in Lombok, Indonesia. Many people can be spotted with vehicles stopping by the roadside to catch the sunset. There are two different Malimbu hill viewpoint apparently. Best would be Malimbu hill viewpoint II. It offers a better view and uninterrupted skyline beyond the horizon. You know you are at the right viewpoint when you can see the three main islands - Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air from where you are.
Off the road, where you can see some people making their way down walking towards the open sea with a view of the coconut trees. I like this spot since it is a distance away from the busy street and not many are willing to spend more time here. Meaning, it is pretty calm and quiet listening to the sound of waves breaking against the sunset under a coconut tree.
Sunset in Lombok starts around 6 pm, local time. So be sure to be early to get a parking spot to avoid disappointment during peak season. If you are like me, riding a scooter around and decided to park at Malimbu hill viewpoint II, be ready to pay a parking fee as there will be a local guy wearing safety west insisting you to pay before you leave. I paid INR 1,000 to that guy and left. It is not a legal or legitimate activity, but I guess that is how he makes a living out of it.
