Hotel Royal Penang

We stayed at Hotel Royal Penang during December 2015 before the big Christmas holiday. We drove from Kuala Lumpur to Penang for a gateway with family . Booking.com once again did us the favor in securing our rooms.





We did note on the booking that we have kid and infant with us traveling as a family. However, upon check-in, the receptionist told us that it was going to be 2 single beds combined for both the rooms we booked and there was no queen / king size bedrooms available. We had to take it considering the peak season in Penang island.





The room was spacious with all basic necessities provided such as towel, toiletries, ironing board, hair dryer etc. Hotel staffs were friendly and helpful.



Good things about the hotel :

1. Excellent air conditioning
2. Comfortable mattress / pillow
3. Friendly & helpful staffs
4. Strategic location - near to Gurney Drive.
5. Free parking for drive in guests
6. Quick check out time.
7. Old school water tap - reminds me of good old days.
8. Strong WIFI connection.


Bad things about the hotel :

1. Moldy rooms. ( both of our rooms were moldy )
2. Strong cigarette smell as we stepped out of the elevator ( too much to change flooring carpet? ).           We stayed on a non-smoking floor, go figure.
3. Old stain with molds sofa in the room
4. Dusty room.
5. Dirty carpet as it was dusty - Sneezing !
6. Heavy breathing in the room - due to dusty carpet.
7. Loud noise from the karaoke center nearby by night.
8. SLOW check in time
9. Dodgy underground parking area - insufficient at times
10. No elevator to hotel lobby from basement parking. We had to carry out luggage up the stairs.
- and every other time to access the car park.



Other than that, we had a good stay.
